2010 First Place

Sunflower
by
Cole Grimes
6th grade poet - Joy Elementary Schoool

Sunflowers so beautiful and majestic
in the delightful heat of the suns powerful rays

Its crunchy seeds a delicious treat
It's petals as bright as a shiny star

Everything around it seems petty and unimporant
compared to its mighty strength and height

2010 Second Place

DELPHINIUMS
by
Robin Baker
2nd grade poet - Salcha Elementary School

Delphiniums grow so tall

They grow up to the sky

They see so high, so they say hi,

They are my favorite garden flowers,

Cause they grow taller than me and say hi when

I walk by

They smell so good after all.

We don't have a dog to trample through them all

so we get to keep them till the fall.

2010 Third Place

A LITTLE DANDELION
by
Ethan Gentleman
3rd grade poet - B.E.S.T. Home School

A little yellow dandelion growing in the field
He made friends with other flowers
playing with them for several hours

Sometimes happy sometimes blue
Happy when he plays with you

When he's alone he is blue
He wants a friend to be there too

A pasqueflower is his best friend
until their heads become seeds at the end

Then their seeds blow in the wind
and into the grass they grow again.

2010 Honorable Mention

Forget- Me-Not's
by
Emilie Grimes
3rd grade poet - Joy Elementary School

Forget-me-not's, they say the message of
someone who has passed on

They are the color of sad blue eyes
They are a friend of the kids
They are a friend of the men
They are a friend of the women
They are a friend of the earth

Yes, that is what a forget-me-not does
It says the message of someone who has passed on.
